Hallo, mijn naam is Mathias de Vriend en ik ben 18 jaar oud. Ik volg computerbeheer (6 INFB) aan de Tandem in Eeklo. Ik vind deze opleiding bijzonder boeiend en ze biedt ook heel wat toekomstmogelijkheden. De keuze voor mijn geïntegreerde proef was vrij snel gemaakt. Ik wou mijn oudere broer Simon (22 jaar), die een zware mentale handicap heeft, meer zelfstandigheid geven. Ik wilde een hulpmiddel maken dat hem in staat zou stellen om met een minimum aan hulp te genieten van zijn favoriete bezigheid, het kijken van Disneyfilms. Zo kwam ik op het idee van een interactief mediacenter aangesloten op een NAS. Het was ook heel belangrijk dat hij een film kon starten met slechts een tikje van zijn vinger, daarom wilde ik een touchscreen gebruiken, want de knoppen van een afstandsbediening zijn veel te klein. Hij kan de films kiezen door op de afbeelding te drukken dat Simon herkent. Simon heeft het uitgetest en de glimlach op zijn gezicht maakte duidelijk dat dit een grote stap voorwaarts was voor zijn zelfstandigheid. Ik probeer ook freeware te gebruiken om de kosten te drukken...... Alles wat je nodig hebt is een pc met windows, een touchscreen of afstandsbediening en wat gratis software. Ik hoop dat dit systeem niet alleen mijn broer kan helpen, maar veel mensen die onafhankelijker willen worden.

Je trouve ce cours particulièrement fascinant et il offre également de nombreuses possibilités d'avenir. Le choix de mon épreuve intégrée s'est fait assez rapidement. Je voulais donner plus d'indépendance à mon frère aîné Simon (22 ans), qui souffre d'un grave handicap mental. Je voulais créer un outil qui lui permettrait de pratiquer son activité préférée, regarder des films de Disney, avec un minimum d'aide. C'est ainsi que j'ai eu l'idée d'un médiacenter interactif connecté à un NAS. Il était également très important qu'il puisse démarrer un film d'un simple toucher du doigt ; c'est pourquoi j'ai voulu utiliser un écran tactile, car les boutons d'une télécommande sont beaucoup trop petits. Il peut choisir les films en appuyant sur l'image que Simon reconnaît. Simon l'a testé et le sourire qu'il a affiché lui a fait comprendre que c'était un grand pas en avant pour son indépendance. J'essaie également d'utiliser des logiciels gratuits pour réduire les coûts....... Tout ce dont vous avez besoin, c'est d'un ordinateur équipé de Windows, d'un écran tactile ou d'une télécommande et de quelques logiciels gratuits. J'espère que ce système pourra non seulement aider mon frère mais aussi de nombreuses personnes qui souhaitent devenir plus indépendantes.

It was also very important that he could start a movie with just a tap of his finger that’s why I wanted to use a touchscreen because the buttons of a remote control are much too small. He can choose the movies by pressing the picture that Simon recognizes. Simon tested it out and the smile on his face made it clear that this was a huge step forward for his independence. I also try to use freeware to lower the costs…… All you need is a pc with windows, a touchscreen or remote and some free software. I hope that this system can not only help my brother but many people who want to become more independent.
